Windsor Kiwanis 39th annual Shad Derby Road Race

The 39th Annual Windsor Kiwanis Shad Derby Road Race was held on May 16th, the race is part of the Shad Derby Festival which includes activities on the Windsor town green and a parade. The road race overall male winner was Chris Rau (No. 83) with a time of 17:11 which was ahead of his 2008 time of 17:57. The overall Women's winner was Renee Savoi (No. 58) with a time of 24:11. The Kiwanis is an international civic organization with the primary mission of supporting children, all of the proceeds raised by the road race go directly to the local community.

The monies raised by the Windsor Kiwanis supports scholarships for deserving Windsor students and youth clubs in the local schools, Key club-Windsor High School, Builders Club-Sage Park Middle School and "K" Kids - Clover Street School as well as the Windsor food/fuel bank and a Backpack program.

The Windsor Kiwanis Club extends our appreciation to the sponsers of the Shad Derby Road Race ....Windsor Federal Savings, Rabbett Insurance, Carmon Funeral Homes, Dagata Granite & Bronze and Scott's Sports Supplies.

Ali is a four-year Senior at Loomis    Chaffee School here in Windsor.  She is a three-year cross-country runner and a four-year lacrosse player; a member of the LC Concert Band playing the alto saxophone; a member of the UNICEF branch at LC, holding fundraisers and raising money for the global foundation; recently worked on the fundraising strategies for her senior class gift for the school's Annual Fund; previously a nine-year member of the Girls Scouts, receiving the Silver Award - the second highest honor - for community service and overall participation. 

 

Ali plans to attend Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., and to major in Hospitality Management.  After witnessing the Shad Derby festivities all of her life she is eagerly awaiting Shad Derby events this year.  Good luck to you Ali
